I applaud that judge's ability to see both sides of the question. He was a criminal, committed a crime, and deserved imprisonment. He was also a human being capable of change and redemption and, having served his sentence, deserves the best chance to succeed. It's hard for judges to balance those competing interests but she seems to have done it. Her hug for the defendant was a bit guarded, though. It seemed like she didn't want to give it.

  You're right about the guarded part, but it's not like that was her best friend in middle school either. She was there to support him getting his life back together, not press her body to his haha
